Description

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Manager, the Iitl’l Kil Coordinator will coordinate, and support language planning initiatives with Gaw Tlagee Old Massett, HlGaagilda Skidegate, Kxeen Prince Rupert and T’agwan Vancouver. The Coordinator will liaise between Xaad Kil Nee, Skidegate Haida Immersion Program and other language programs, and will work closely with community representatives to build and strengthen collaborative relationships and establish practices for communication and sharing.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate language planning initiatives for the Council of Haida Nation.
  • Work closely with representatives from Gaw Tlagee, HlGaagilda, Kxeen and T’agwan to implement language planning initiatives and strengthen existing relationships.
  • Gather, assess and summarize data on language utilization across Haida Gwaii.
  • Attend and support language planning meetings with representatives from the collaborating communities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate community-wide language planning mobilization meetings.
  • Create a repository or archive of resources, identify resources in existence, their location and accessibility, and identify what resources are needed for future language work.
  • Seek out funding opportunities for language; develop project outlines and draft funding proposals
  • Perform other related duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong interest and/or experience in Xaad and/or Xaayda kil.
  • Some knowledge of the history of language work in Gaw Tlagee and HlGaagilda.
  • Experience in strategic planning and/or comprehensive community planning.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of Haida laws, traditions, and values.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, and SharePoint;
  • Must be able to travel to various locations on Haida Gwaii for meetings throughout the year.
  • Must have a valid B.C. driver’s license. 

$27.62 - $31.08 per hour based on experience, Full-time 35 hrs. per week
