About the Role
Farm Worker Volunteers help with planting and field/garden maintenance, harvest and wash/pack, and general farm clean-up. Tasks vary by season and weather. You will work under the direction of the Farm Supervisor or designated staff.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Plant, weed, thin, water, and mulch crops; assist with bed preparation.
- Seed and transplant (fill trays, label, move flats, transplant seedlings).
- Harvest, wash, sort, and pack produce using clean, food-safe practices.
- Support composting, trellising/row cover, irrigation set-up, and end-of-day clean-up.
- Follow safety instructions and farm policies; report hazards or injuries promptly.
Qualifications & Skills
- Interest in sustainable agriculture and willingness to learn; experience helpful but not required.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and work respectfully with others.
- Comfort working outdoors in changing weather; closed-toe shoes required.
- Physical: standing/bending/kneeling; lift/carry up to [20–40 lb] as needed.
- Safety: follow tool-use and hygiene/food-handling guidance; no motorized equipment unless trained/authorized.
- Preference will be given to Haida candidates as per Section 41 of the Human Rights Code.
